Immtech Appoints Daniel Schmitt Vice President, Licensing and Commercial Development

VERNON HILLS, Ill., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Immtech International, Inc. (AMEX:IMM) announced today that Daniel Schmitt has been appointed to the newly-created position of Vice President, Licensing and Commercial Development. Mr. Schmitt joined Immtech in November and will be responsible for overseeing licensing and commercialization activities related to the Company's proprietary medicinal chemistry platform.

Mr. Schmitt has over 17 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, with roles in both large pharmaceutical and small biotechnology companies. He brings significant commercial expertise to the position, gained through leadership roles in market research, forecasting, product planning and business development. He has successfully developed and led cross-functional development teams, and has participated in or led the commercial development and launch of more than a dozen new pharmaceutical products. Mr. Schmitt has over 10 years of licensing and business development experience, and has executed several successful commercial and research collaborations with large pharmaceutical, biotech, and leading academic and research institutions.

Prior to joining Immtech, Mr. Schmitt worked at First Genetic Trust (FGT) as Director of Academic Partnerships, where he was responsible for developing collaborations in cutting edge genomic research. Prior to FGT, Mr. Schmitt was Director, Global Oncology at Searle/Pharmacia, where he headed the teams responsible for developing commercialization strategies for Searle's programs in anti-angiogenesis and immunotherapy, including cancer vaccines.

Mr. Schmitt assumed his new responsibilities upon the departure of David Tiemeier who, for family reasons, has resigned from the Company to relocate to another city.
